Week 1-

  1. Why was Britain first to industrialize? Why did a country like France not also industrialize early on?
  2. What is importance of food production for industrialization? Understand: crop rotation, the Enclosure Movement
  3. How was population changing during the time of the IR?
  4. What was the first item to be produced in the IR?
  5. Describe the differences of living on a farm vs. working in a factory?
  6. What were the conditions of cities during the early IR?

Week 2-

  1. Describe the major differences between capitalism and communism? “Founder” of each system? How do capitalism and communism affect individual incentive? What is the role of government in making these economic systems work?

  3. Who was Robert Owen? What was utopianism?
  4. What were the terms and characteristics of industrialization in: United States, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, Rest of World?

    1. Which African countries were able to maintain independence? Why was this?
  3. What are the positive and negative effects of Imperialism?
